Lately I’ve been experimenting with macro photography, trying to capture the beauty in nature through the little details of life we often miss. Insects, flowers, veins of leaves. Rather than use a typical macro lens, I decided to use a telephoto with extension tubes. This combination allows me to keep a farther shooting distance so I don’t scare little shy insects away from my big gigantic lens. All taken with a Canon 500D camera, Canon 70-200mm 4L IS lens and kenko extension tubes. Enjoy!

I’m back from a trip to beautiful canyon country in Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon in Southern Utah. No sign of Neo or Morpheus. But here’s a video I put together of some of the beauty I saw while climbing Angel’s Landing, hiking the Narrows and driving around the park. The scenery is breathtaking and the view from Angel’s Landing is worth the crazy and somewhat dangerous hike, even in 100 degree weather.

Thank you for all the positive comments about my Yosemite photos. I’ve gotten a number of requests for higher-resolution versions that you can use for your computer’s backgrounds, wallpapers and screensavers. So today I’m making available a photo of Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite National park taken from the Overlook after you exit the tunnel into Yosemite Valley. It is a stunning and breathtaking view.

I just got back a couple days ago from a camping trip to Yosemite National Park, Mono Lake, June Lake and Devi’s Postpile National Monument. It was an amazing trip but I caught a cold on the way back. Not such a bad thing since I got to stay in bed and go through all the photos and video I captured. Below are some of the highlights captured on digital film. Enjoy!

I ventured out to the Los Angeles Arboretum on Sunday and took photos using an infrared filter for my Canon SX1 IS digital camera. Pretty cool, eh?

Infrared light is invisible to the naked eye but with the help of a filter, you can see the world from a completely different perspective. Objects which are bright in visible light become dark. And objects normally dark become bright. Very cool and eerie at the same time.

More infrared photography - at the Learning Garden in Venice, CA

What do you need to get started?
An infrared filter such as the Hoya R72, a digital camera that can take add-on filters (Digital SLRs and some prosumer cameras like my Canon SX1IS), and a tripod. You’ll also need a photo editing program like Adobe Photoshop for post production.
